These stories are based on Mary Kiki Wilcox's 12 years of volunteer work in the health center of her senior community, where she takes recorded music, on a CD player, to the residents in the Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Facilities. They listen together, as a group, in their weekly "Mostly Music” sessions, or individually, in their rooms. She has a wide selection of music to share, ranging from classical to popular standards and show tunes. Her listeners talk-about whatever comes, whatever moves them. What Mary sees in the faces of her neighbors as they listen to the music, and what they choose to talk about, touch her deeply. These people become her friends.

Addressed not only to Catholics but to"every person living on this planet," Pope Francis' second encyclical is a challenging call for a "bold cultural revolution" in how we think about technological progress and economic growth. The degradation of our environment, he says, is a symptom of deeper problems: rapid change, unsustainable overconsumption, indifference to the poor, and the decay of social values. He offers a variety of solutions, including a change in lifestyles away from "extreme consumerism" and towards a greater sense of social responsibility. For Christians, an "ecological spirituality"-one that is grounded in the convictions of our faith- is not "an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience." Drawing on the rich social teachings of the Church, Laudato Si is a groundbreaking document that will be discussed and studied by both believers and non-believers for years to come. Study guide included for Reflection and Discussion,

Receiving a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease profoundly alters lives and creates endless uncertainty about the future. How does a person cope with such a life changing discovery? What are the hopes and fears of someone living with this disease? How does he want to be treated? How does he feel as the disease alters his brain, his relationships, and ultimately himself? The author provides illuminating responses to these and many other questions in this collection of provocative essays. Diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease at age 61, the former psychologist courageously shares an account of his slow transformation and deterioration and the growing division between his world and the world of others. With poignant clarity, candor, and even occasional humor, more than 80 brief essays address difficult issues faced by those with Alzheimer's disease, including the loss of independence and personhood, unwanted personality shifts, communication difficulties, changes in relationships with loved ones and friends, the declining ability to perform familiar tasks. This exploration into the world of individuals with Alzheimer's disease is for anyone affected personally or professionally by the devastating disease. Individuals with early stage Alzheimer's disease will take comfort in the voice of a fellow traveler experiencing similar challenges, frustrations, and triumphs. Family and professional caregivers will be enlightened by his revealing words, gaining a better understanding of an unfathomable world and how best to care for someone living in it.

Eyes as Big as Plates is an ongoing collaborative photography and sculpture project by Norwegian-Finnish artist duo Karoline Hjorth and Riitta Ikonen (both born 1980). Initially a play on characters from Nordic folklore, the series has evolved into a search for the human connection to nature. Hjorth & Ikonen work together throughout the process with their complementary skills (Karoline is the photographer in the duo, while Riitta works mainly with the creation of the wearable sculptures). Since 2011 the duo has collaborated with retired farmers, fishermen, zoologists, plumbers, opera singers, housewives, artists and academics. Each character inhabits the landscape in a wearable sculpture made from natural materials. The book features portraits, field notes, essays and behind-the-scenes stories from many of the project's 60 shoots. With international press coverage in the Huffington Post, the BBC, TIME LightBox, Life and elsewhere, plus a highly successful Kickstarter campaign attracting a large American audience, the series has developed into a project with universal appeal.
